Overwhelmed!

You know when you have that hard to breathe feeling (whether it's caused from stress or who knows what) and then combine it with trying to scarf down lunch in 15 minutes because you have duty and you feel like you can't swallow.  I've had that feeling today.  I don't know why.  (I've taken my medicine, promise!)

I am bound and determined to get rid of THE desk, but at the same time I am really nervous about it.  I keep having these "what if" thoughts like the darn kids.  (Don't you get sick of those what-if-er kiddos?)  All day long I try to eek out moments of going through drawers and trying to come up with a game plan.

I think it is killing me.

But I will not stop.  No I will not.  I will not stop until I drop.

In the mean time, my desk area looks like pooey, doggie-dooey.

Quit talking about the dang desk, Erika.  Ya big baby!

So on to good things.  Breathe.  Deep.  Feel the chi!

I've received two awards, well three if you count the one I received twice.

Chrissy over at Buzzing with Ms. B. has honored me with the Liebster Blog Award.  Woo hoo!

And Tanya of A Class Act and Laura from Kinder Kraziness both gave me the Versatile Blogger Award.

I am going to somewhat combine my duties for these two awards so I don't go into a full anxiety attack if you all will forgive me.    I usually don't get this bent out of shape over such little things.  I must be PMSing too!

So here are the rules:

1. Thank the person who presented the award to you and link back to them.

Thank you Chrissy, Laura and Tanya.  You are all so sweet and thoughtful.  Their super power is obviously bucket filling!!

2. Tell seven things about yourself.

1.  I have the unique (or embarrassing) knack of mixing up the beginning letters of two words in conversation.  For example, the names of my brother's ex-girlfriend's parents are Doug and Flo but for the life of me, it always comes out Flug and Do.  Most commonly in conversation with one of them.

2.  I was a nanny in Wellesley, MA for a year during college.  It was both great and horrible for a variety of reasons, but one I'd never change.

3.  I I attended four colleges and changed my major three times before I graduated with a teaching degree.

4.  I love my pets (and pretty much all pets) and could easily be a hoarder.  There is a cat that lives behind the school that will hop in my classroom window and visit.  I keep treats for him in my desk.  There are dogs next door to the school playground and I keep treats for them in my coat pockets.  When I visit people's homes, I spend as much time with their pets as them.  Some of them have pets that react to my voice on the phone even.  Yep, love me some critters.  (Some days I like them more than people.)

5.  I crave chips and salsa on a regular basis.  I can eat it for a snack or a meal.

6.  I can't wear shoes with a closed heel other than tennis shoes.  So pretty much every shoe I own is a slip on clog style shoe.  I have boney heels and get blisters that bleed if I wear anything closed.

7.  Not only are my daughters adopted, but I am too.

So there you have it.  Seven odd things I figured no one out there knew about me.

3.  Pass this award on to 15 newly discovered blogs and let them know they've received the awards.

I hate to do this.  But I am going to put off that portion of this post until tomorrow because I am so tired I can't stay awake.  (Remember my days and nights were confused until yesterday and I think it has caught with me today BIG TIME!)

So, TTFN.  (ta ta for now or as my husband says...ta ta fuzzy nuts!)

  4. Congrats on the awards - love #4! I am lucky my husband stops me from becoming a hoarder! When he was away in Korea for a year I fostered a mama cat and her 5 newborn kittens - if he hadn't been coming home I probably would have talked myself into keeping all of them (with help from my kids of course!) Luckily he has a bit more common sense than I do in regards to how many pets its wise to take on!

I took out my teacher desk except for a small stand at the front for my laptop and elmo to run the Smartboard and a small stand at the back of the room for my teacher computer (why I have to have 2 computers in one room is a mystery!). I love the way it gives me more space for my students and our centers! My neighbor has a great big hulking desk and two tables that takes up about 1/4 of her room - every time I go in I itch to remove stuff lol! Good luck, all projects are ugly in the middle stages, don't let it get to you, it's a work in progress!

  6. You will love not having a desk! I haven't had one since half way through my first year when I dumped in the basement over Christmas break! Literally DUMPED it down the steep stairs!
I love not having one, so much more room!
    Good luck!

  7. My partner teacher got rid of her desk this year and is struggling a little bit. She feels like she has too much clutter in other areas. I think she's enjoying the more space but trying to figure out the best way to organize without it. I switched my desk for a much smaller desk and like the space it saves but feel I needed a desk for all my "important" clutter :) I bet you can make it work!

  8. You totally have me craving chips and salsa. I didn't have a desk in my classroom last year...well not a traditional desk with drawers and stuff. I used a long, rectangular table and put a 3 drawer cart underneath it to store things. That probably doesn't constitute as not having a desk though :) I love that you're an animal lover too...I feel the same way about them!

  9. Oh you poor thing Erika! I hate feeling that stressed! I hope things settle down.

Try not to worry too much about the desk. Just think of the plastic drawers as the desk. They pretty much are, just more condensed. I think you will be happy you did it (though I think everyone thinks I'm nuts at my school!!) I am very happy without mine. I hope the rest of your week goes nicely :)

  10. I just love your blog! I can relate with numbers 1, 3 and 5:) I'm NOT jumping on the bandwagon and ditching my desk. I LOVE my desk and the fact that it LOCKS! The school provided it for me, so that is one less thing I have to buy:) Good luck!

  11. I think that is great your adopted your daughters and that you are adopted. It is something you guys have in common. I love your first one. I totally do that to, but I add the letters onto the end. The kids catch me all the time and they start laughing. I think it is my brain thinking quicker than my mouth. :)

  12. So I have a mini-desk in the main part of my classroom that has my computer and a some pens and stuff.

    I also have an office.

I know, an office. It has a HUUUGE Desk in it, that is piled with crap.

Everytime I look at it I get stressed. Then I close the door and it's fine.

I learned so much about you today! Yay!

  13. You're going to be fine without a desk! I can't wait to hear how you like it and see your room! I got rid of my desk two years ago and it is GREAT! I am awful about having neat piles of stuff and my desk just ended up being a place for clutter. I don't even really use the filing cabinet the school gave us (it lives in the closet). I use my kidney bean table as a "home area" and have two small bookshelves behind it and a set of 3 plastic drawers underneath it. I still have some clutter, but I'm getting better about it. c: Hope it all goes as well for you! And Thanks for the Versatile Blogger Award!
