Calendar Cards Freebie

This is the last week to get everything together for the start of school.  We don't get any paid days to work in our rooms.  Do you?

As I've worked to redo things in my room so that they go with my color and bee theme I decided I had to remake the cards for my calendar.  I use a pocket chart.  Thankfully it was yellow or what would I have done?!  Oh the shame!

Then I noticed that the yesterday, today, and tomorrow cards that we move each day were ragged and messy.  I believe I've had those since 1995!

You can grab your own to use by clicking on the picture.

On another note, our not quite three year old Shar Pei, Juju, had to be put to sleep yesterday.

We found out a little over a month ago she had a horrible disease known as Shar Pei fever that would cause her kidneys to fail.

We knew her time was limited but had no idea that she would go so quickly.

She was the guardian of our house and family.  She loved to sit in the window and watch the rabbits and squirrels.  Her fur was the softest, fluffiest fur of any dog we've ever had.  Most of all she was her mama's girl and followed me everywhere!  We all miss her but probably mostly me.

I was lucky enough to have her in my arms when she left this world.

I know she is at peace and hopefully giving the rabbits and squirrels a run for their money in doggie heaven.

I'll leave you with this poem.  Get out the tissue!

Rainbow Bridge
author unknown

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

  1. I'm so sorry about your loss Erika. Pets are family (often better than family) and their loss is immeasurable. I'm sure Juju knew how much you love her. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family.

  2. I am sorry about your puppy. I found my puppy after she passed away in her sleep and that was so hard for me. It brought back all sorts of memories. She was a part of the family so I know exactly what you are going through. Hugs!!!

  4. Oh Erika, I'm so sorry about sweet Juju. Right this minute my precious man Max is sitting with his head on my feet. He is my shadow just like Juju was yours. He showed up on my porch in the middle of a blizzard when he was about 5 weeks old. Someone had thrown him out. It was right in the middle of the worst time of my life. My 14 year marriage had ended completely unexpectedly (to me anyway) and I was putting myself through college while being a single mom to three boys. The LAST thing I needed was a puppy. Max turned out to be one of the best blessings I've ever had. He's 12 years old and just doesn't get around like he used to. I know when his time comes I will mourn him completely. My heart goes out to you. I'm thinking of and praying for your family. Thanks for sharing the poem. It is beautiful.

  8. Erika, I sent you a message this morning thanking you for following Awakenings. As a result, I found the link to your blog. So sorry to hear about your JuJu. Since the kids are grown and gone our children are our pets. We have become slaves to our pets (two cats - Foxie and Boots), puppets for their paws, and love them dearly.

I am a former teacher at the middle and high school level. However, I have the utmost respect for the elementary teacher. Upon leaving the classroom to work at the district level I had the opportunity to work with and learn immensely from the elementary teachers for now the levels spanned K - 12. I left my mathematics comfort zone and ventured into reading. Loved it and still work as an online consultant.

Best wishes for a wonderful school year! Bless you for all you do and endure for our children of today to become our leaders of tomorrow! Looking forward to your visits and hope you enjoy the site.
