How I Met My Hunny

Ms. B is hosting her first linky party and I had to join in the fun.

Rewind to the late 80's.

When I was home on a break from college, my parents tried to set me up with a guy they (and my brother) knew.

Uh, do I look like a loser?

No, thank you!  I am not going out with a guy my parents recommend, thank you very much!

Now flash forward a year when I am living back in my hometown and working.  My job took me into various local business where I met my hunny, who was not my hunny yet.

I look forward to going into the business he works at and chatting with him or just waving.  He's awfully cute and very funny.

Now fast forward a few months.

The funny, cute guy has tickets to a local concert and doesn't have a date for it.  So, he tells his coworker that he is going to ask the next (cute) girl who walks through the door to go with him.

Guess who walks through the door?

Did you guess?

It was me!

Ah, but sadly, the cute guy loses his nerve and doesn't ask the cute girl.

But, that's not the end of the story.  So don't cry people!

Later that same night both cute people run into each other at a local gathering spot where the guy gets up the nerve to ask the girl to the concert and slips the tickets into her pocket.

Ah, but the story takes another sad turn of events here so grab your tissue.

The girl (who had a little too much fun and spirits) doesn't recall the invite or the tickets being given to her so when the boy calls about the concert she is clueless.

However, she agrees to go anyway because remember he is cute and funny!

And yet, the guy is about six years older and has a reputation as kind of a ladies man, so the girl asks if she can invite a friend to go along with the group that is already going to dinner and the concert.

Whew!  He agrees.  The more the merrier!  Just get the tickets out of your pocket and don't forget them please!

The big night arrives.

Girl is not too fond of guy's friends and he isn't too impressed with her friend.  No chemistry.

The guy drives the girl home and she is a wee bit afraid of him because of his reputation.  Remember?!  So she babbles like an idiot and then runs into her house without getting molested.  Another big whew!

Fast forward a few months.

The guy invites the girl out for another "try"!  But she stands him up and makes excuses.  So he drops it.

Fast forward another few months.

For some odd reason the girl can't stop thinking about the cute, funny guy.  She keeps finding reasons to go into his place of business and he isn't there!  What?  He's on vacation for two weeks.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to her the guy is on vacation thinking about her.

When the guy comes back they visit, laugh, and decide that they owe it to themselves to try another date.  Just the two of them.  Especially since the friends that they weren't overly impressed with were more acquaintances.

Things go well, even great.  Before you know it they are a couple.

Until.

Kleenex please.

Dun, dun, dunnnnnnnn!

A stranger in a convenience store tells the girl that the guy has a girlfriend in NYC.

The girl's mother confirms that she has heard the same thing.

Girl's heart is broken and she is mad.

The guy explains that his high school and college girlfriend lives in NYC but that they are not "exclusive".  WTH?  Get lost, buddy!

Fast forward a few weeks.

Guy breaks it off with girlfriend and returns to cuter, younger girl with sincere hopes of getting back together.

Girl gives in only because he stole her heart a long time ago.

1990ish

The rest, as they say, is history!

That was over twenty years ago.

We later discovered that he had student taught at my high school while I was a junior.  Small world.

Best part is that the ex-girlfriend and her husband are our neighbors and their daughters are best friends with our daughters!

So that is the crazy, abbreviated version of how I met my husband who, by the way, was the same guy my parents tried to set me up with!  Yes, L for loser, that's me!
